About

Small on purpose

NFM Labs is a small studio in Tampa. We design, build, and operate AI systems for service businesses — and we run our own software in production, which is the reason we can tell you what will actually hold up.

Most agencies in this space sell you a strategy and subcontract the build. We do both, with the same people. The engineer who sits on your discovery call is the one who writes the escalation rules, watches the first week of transcripts, and gets the alert when something breaks at 2am.

That's possible because we're deliberately small. We take on a limited number of engagements, and we'd rather tell you the first thing you asked for should be the third thing you build than sell you all of it at once.

We also build and operate our own products — including a multi-tenant platform running live for residential communities. Tenant isolation, encrypted off-platform backups with a rehearsed restore, on-call: we've paid for those lessons on our own systems before bringing them to yours.

How we work

We ship, then we run it

A system nobody operates degrades quietly. We stay on the transcripts and the failure alerts, not just the launch.

Constraints first

Compliance, data residency, and what the agent must refuse get designed in at the start. Retrofitting them is how projects die.

You own the result

Code, repository, infrastructure, and a written handover. No lock-in as a retention strategy.

Honest sequencing

We'll tell you when AI isn't the answer, or when the thing you asked for should come third. That conversation is the free call.

Questions we actually get

Will callers know they're talking to AI?

Yes, and that's deliberate. Our agents identify themselves as a virtual assistant. Pretending otherwise damages trust the moment a caller works it out — and in several of the industries we serve, it's a compliance problem as well as an ethical one.

What happens when it doesn't know the answer?

It escalates. Every deployment has explicit rules about what the agent must not attempt: pricing commitments, legal advice, anything touching client funds. Those refusals are enforced server-side, not left to a prompt that a determined caller can talk around.

How long until it's live?

A single voice line or automation is typically live in about two weeks. Full front-office builds take longer and get phased so something is working the whole way through. Custom platforms are scoped in the blueprint before anyone commits.

Do we own it, or are we renting from you?

You own it. Code, repository, and infrastructure, with a documented handover. We'd rather keep clients because the work is good than because leaving is painful — which is also why there's no annual lock-in.

Where do most engagements start?

Wherever the value is leaking fastest — usually the phone, sometimes the website, sometimes a back-office process nobody has looked at in two years. We map it on the first call and sequence it honestly. Most clients start with one system and expand once it's producing.

What about our data?

It stays in systems you control, and we design the retention and residency posture up front rather than retrofitting it. Where a sector has specific constraints, those shape the architecture from the first page of the blueprint.

You're a small studio. Why not a larger agency?

Because the team that scopes your build is the team that ships and runs it — there's no handoff to a delivery pod. We also operate our own production software, so the operational lessons we bring to your build were paid for on our own systems first.
